About Board Certification

Are all Pediatric dentists and Orthodontists Board Certified?

No, not all Pediatric dentists and Orthodontists continue to become board certified. The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) and American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification signifies a unique achievement—a significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist.

A Board Certified Pediatric dentist has successfully passed a written and an oral clinical examination to achieve the highest level of accreditation and validation of his/her knowledge and skills. Current Board Certified Pediatric Dentists can be found on the ABPD Diplomate Roster.

Similarly, a Board Certified Orthodontist has been voluntarily examined by his or her peers on comprehensive knowledge and clinical skills. Becoming Board Certified signifies the Orthodontist’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in Orthodontic care.

Selecting a specialist who is ABPD or ABO Certified ensures the highest standard of Pediatric or Orthodontic dental care for your child.
